Every word of God is pure: He is a shield to them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto His words lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. (Proverb 30: 5,6).

The Bible has we have it today has gone through various stages and odds and it has survived all of them without a single blemish or alteration. It is the WORD OF GOD. The Bible is the full and final revelation of God to man.

As Christians, we take the Bible as the final authority and final reference in all matters that concerns Christian life, conduct , teaching and service. If any prophet or teacher says any thing contrary to the Bible, we regard such as a false prophet or false teacher.

To the law and to the testimony. If they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. (Isaiah 8:20)

But though we or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed (Galatians 1:8)

So as Christians, we should be wise to check up whatever anybody teaches us from the bible

These are more noble than they of Thessalonica in that they receive the word with all readiness of mind and searched the scripture daily, whether those things were so (Act 17:11)

Be a noble Christian, check up that prophecy from the bible. In this edition of the Bible teaches”. We shall talk about vital issues that confirm the authority of the Bible. So come along with us and we shall show you the supremacy of the scripture

Divine Inspiration of the Bible

All Scripture is given by Inspiration of God… (2 Timothy 3:16)

Divine inspiration of the Bible means the Bible contains God-breathed words. God through the Holy Spirit, divinely inspired the writing of it. He was the supernatural overseer who directed the Bible’s design and recording of the contents

The Bible did not contain the insight of some special religious people, but God breathed out His word into the minds of men to be written down

These things we also speak, not in words that man’s wisdom teaches, but that which the HOLY SPIRIT teaches (1 Corinthians 2:3)

None of what was written in the Bible was the working or impulse of man. Instead, each writer was moved by the Holy Spirit

Know This First, that No prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men spoke as they were moved by the holy Spirit, (2 peter 1:20, 21)

God supernaturally oversees the design of the Bible and the writing of it contents.

So with these mentioned above, we can conclude that the Bible is divinely authoritative for developing Christian faith, Christian lifestyle and Christian ministry. It is very important to note that no humane effort in great sermon or wonderful Christian book is inspired the same way the Bible is.

No man is receiving any new revelation from God of heretofore unknown truth. The Bible is the full and final revelation and truth from God. If anybody today claim to have a new revelation from God, it means one of these

two:

(1)He has received illumination (a fresh understanding of an already revealed truth)

(2)He has been deceived by a spirit. We must carefully test the spirits.

Test the spirit because many false prophets have gone out into the world (1 John 4:13)

Preachers, teachers and ministers of God are not allowed to preach or teach their own opinions and tell others God says the same. Our preaching and teaching must be supported by the Bible else we risk the judgment of God as false prophets. We are not to add to or take away from the Bible or twist the scripture to serve our own selfish desire. If we do such, we will be risking the judgment of God and our own destruction.

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandment of the Lord your God which I command you. (Deuteronomy 4:2)

… In which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest (Twist), as they do also the other scriptures unto their own destruction (2 Peter 3:16)

Inerrancy & Infallibility of the Bible

The fact that the Bible is divinely inspired furnished all the proof you need for its inerrancy and infallibility. (Without errors and trustworthy). As Christians, if we believed that the Bible is God’s word, then we are sure that His words are trustworthy and error free.

To help us more, you can consider the following.

Testimony of old Testament Scripture

In the old testament, we encounter the phrase “ Thus saith the Lord” and others like it over 3,800 times! The psalmist says:

The law of the Lord is perfect

…… The testimony of the Lord is sure (Psalm 19:7)

The writer of proverb says:

Every word of God is pure (tested)…. (proverbs 30:5)

All old testament writers were sure God spoke through or to them

The spirit of the Lord spoke by me and his word was on my tongue (2 Samuel 23:2)

And they all testified to the inerrancy and infallibility of God’s word.

Testimony of the New Testament & Jesus

Both the Lord Jesus Christ the Son of the living God and the New Testament writers testifies to the inerrancy and infallibility of the Bible

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or the title shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled (Mathew 15:18)

And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you as also in them of these things in which are something hard to understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own description (2 Peter 3:16)

Testimony of fulfilled prophecies

Scholars concluded that a total of 333 prophecies concerning the birth, life, death and resurrection of Christ have been fulfilled. The probability that many predictions concerning a single individual coming true by chance is calculated at 1 out of 83 billion!

Evidence from Archeological findings.

Well over 25,000 sites have been located and document that confirms the accuracy and trustworthiness of the Bible account of events, people-groups, chronologies etc. Many archeologist actually use text from the Bible to help locate historical sites! The Bible is the most complete and trustworthy and reliable of any book from antiquity.

The Bible and Prophecies

Let the prophet speak two or three and let others Judge

(1 CORINTHIANS 14:29) Prophecies are to be judged by the scripture. If any prophecy goes against any part of the Bible, such prophecy should be treated either as from the flesh or the devil.

But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you that we have preached unto you. Let Him be accursed. (Galatians 1:8)

Any prophecy that goes against the word of God should be rejected immediately. If any prophet say or teach things that are not in line with the Bible such should be regarded as false prophet no matter who he or she is.

To the law and to the testimonies; if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them (Isaiah 8:20)

The Bible validates or invalidates any prophecy!

The Bible and visions, Revelations and Dreams

I Have heard what the prophets said, that prophesied lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? Yea they are prophets of deceit of their own heart; Which think to cause my people to forget my name, by their

Dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their father have forgotten my name for baal.

The prophet that hath a dream, let him Tell a dream and he that hath my word. Let him speak my word faithfully what is chaff to the wheat? Saith the Lord. (Jeremiah 23:25-28)

The Bible is far above all visions revelations and dreams. If any of these goes against the scripture, they are to be treated as trash no matter from whom they come. The Bible is the final authority.

The Apocrypha

The Roman Catholic Church, at the Council of Treat in 1546, decided that fourteen other writings were also inspired by God. These are called the apocrypha. Apocrypha is Greek word meaning hidden things.

There is no record that these fourteen writings were ever used by Jesus or the Apostles. Some of the apocrypha writings denied they were inspired. Their historical record could be useful but we don’t accept them as authority. This was the view held by Jerome; one of the famous leader in the early church who translated the scriptures into Latin about 400AD which is called the Vultage Bible.

The Bible is the final authority in all matter of Christians dealings, conduct¸ service, teaching and ministry. The Bible has survived many odds, kings, troubles and kingdoms and if you are against the Bible. It will survive you.

As Christians, we are to read the Bible, study it, apply it to your life, obey it stand for it and defend it against the hurds of hell.

….earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints (Jud 3)

Benefiting from the Bible

To profit from the Bible, we have to, study and be a doer of the word. We are to make a prayerful study of the word an habit, so that the Holy Ghost will give us rhema of the word. Both the Logos and the rhema are very important. The Logos come through study, and as we pray , the Holy Ghost will give us the rhema (inspired word for the moment). The following can be very useful in the reading and study of the Bible.

(1)Establish a consistent daily reading of God’s Word. Set aside a specific time and place to read, the morning is usually the best time. Also, read the Bible when you don’t feel like, that is the time you need the Bible most.

(2)Pray for illumination. We need the anointing of the Holy Spirit to understand the scriptures. So invite the Holy Spirit to help you in your reading.

(3)Meditate on what you read. We should not hastily run through the scripture without allowing the Holy Spirit insight. We should think on what we have read throughout the day.

(4)Make your study a personal one. Don’t just study for others or for your next sermon, do it for your own benefit.

(5)Develop comprehensive aids. Make notes and keep concordance of texts relating to particular subject.

(6)Mark special passages. Underline meaningful and striking words and make notes in the margin of inspirations you receive.

(7)Memorize the scripture. This is a very important part of our study. It will help you against deception and temptation. You can do that by writing out a particular passage on card and you read the card over all day.
