: The desire to acquire is a very strong one in man; and since no man is born along with any possession, man naturally look to another for benevolence. It starts from the innate desire of an infant for breast milk to the good, the bad and the ugly that any man can desire. We all group around in this dark world below looking at one another’s hand and so harsh is the disappointment when we could not get what we want. We run to several conclusions; and conclude that every other man is selfish. If we would be sincere we would have seen   instances when we also had wanted to help others but could not help it when we fail.

It was John the Baptist who first hinted on the solution to this vital headache in man. “A man can receive nothing except it was given him from above” (John 3:27) so we have being looking at the wrong direction, we expect from the wrong place. The politician who wants power looks to the electorate, the corporate man who wants promotion looks to his superior, the sick man who want healing looks to the doctor, and often the poor man who wants money tends to beg other men. All this, and more look to the wrong direction. Nothing is given and nothing is received except from above. “For promotion cometh neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south. But God is judge; he putteth down one and setteth up another! (Psalm 75:6-7) there is nothing on earth in any sphere that depends on any man. Everything and I repeat; everything depends on God.

When Pilate tried to make Jesus speak, he spoke of his power to adjudicate over him. The Lord pointed this same truth “Thou couldest have no power at all against me, excerpt it were given thee from above” (John 19:11). There is no judgment on earth but as decided or allowed by God.

No man reigns or come to power but as permitted by God, No Athletes hits the ribbons first but as ordain by God. God rules in the affairs of men. “Many seek the ruler’s favour, but every man’s judgment cometh from the Lord! (Proverbs 29-26) This is not to attribute inequalities of life to God or place the judgment of man’s wickedness to another man on God. Be not deceived God is not mocked whatsoever a man sows he shall reap. This is simply to point our attention to the right way.

You will have nothing except God give it to you, either spiritual or material. This understanding will remove a lot of strain from life and will help us to adjust our relationship with the benevolent God who gives us all things richly to enjoy. God is very prodigal when he wants to give, as far as he knows that what you ask will not harm you and all requisite met, he will give beyond your wildest dream.

Only God could have given Abraham that much children. Only God could have made Solomon that much wise and rich. Only God could have given David that many victories. Only God could have made Daniel president in a strange land. God gives and you cannot receive anything except he first give. His first and best gift is Jesus His only Son.
